His Touch on the Mouths – New Perspective on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit

오순절에 불이 임하지 않았다. 불같이 갈라진 혀들이 제자들 각 사람 위에 임했고 그 들은 각각 다른 언어로 말했으나 그곳에 있던 사람들은 통역이 없이도 그들이 말하는 것을 알아 들을 수 있었다. 구약성경에서는 하나님께서 그의 선지자들을 세울 때 그들 의 입에 손을 대고, 그의 말씀을 그들의 입에 넣어 주어 그들이 그의 백성들에게 선 포하게 하셨다. 그러므로 선지자는 하나님의 대언자였으며 일반적으로 그들을 “여호 와의 입이라고 불렀다. 말씀이요 하나님인 예수께서는 말씀 사역을 위하여 대선지자 로 이 세상에 오셨다. 그는 그의 백성에게 하나님 나라를 가르쳤고, 그의 제자들을 그 가 떠난 후 선지자가 되도록 훈련시키셨다. 부활하신 그리스도께서는 그의 제자들을 선지자로 임명하고, 말씀 사역의 사명을 준 후, 아버지께 그의 제자들에게 성령세례를 주어 선지자로 인정해주도록 청하셨다. 그리하여 성령세례는 제자들을 구약 시대의 선지자들과 마찬가지로 새 언약의 선지자로 세우는 위임식이었다. 제자들은 선지자로 서 하나님의 말씀을 선포하기 위하여 땅 끝까지 나가야 했다. 물로 세례를 받은 자들 은 동시에 성령으로 세례를 받으며, 새 언약의 선지자 직분을 받는다.

Fire did not fall on them at Pentecost. Fiery tongues came upon each of the disciples, and they spoke in different languages, but those who were present could understand what they were saying without an interpreter. In the Old Testament, when God raised up his prophets, he put his hand on their mouths and put his words into their mouths that they might proclaim them to his people; hence the prophets were God’s spokesmen, and they were commonly called “the mouth of the LORD.” Jesus, who is the Word and God, is the minister of the Word. Jesus, the Word and God, came into the world as a prophet to minister the Word; he taught his people the kingdom of God, and trained his disciples to be prophets after his departure. After appointing his disciples as prophets and commissioning them to minister the Word, the resurrected Christ asked the Father to recognize his disciples as prophets by baptizing them in the Holy Spirit. Thus, the baptism of the Holy Spirit is a commissioning ceremony that establishes the disciples as prophets of the New Covenant, just like the prophets of the Old Covenant. As prophets, the disciples were to go to the ends of the earth to proclaim the word of God. Those who are baptized in water are simultaneously baptized in the Holy Spirit and receive the office of prophets of the New Covenant.
