저자는 믿지 않는 가정에서 자라나 회사원 생활을 하다가 목회자로의 부르심을 확인하고, 미국 트리니티 신학교에서 공부하여 이민사회의 목사로서 65세 조기 은퇴를 하기까지 직분을 감당해 왔다. 이 책은 그 여정에서 담임한 실로암한인교회에서의 사역하며 경험한 에피소드를 중심으로 서술된 책이다. 서술된 에피소드와 그 안에서 표현된 저자의 생각과 대처를 읽다 보면, 목회에 있어서 하나님께서 주시는 은혜와 지혜가 얼마나 귀중한지를 다시 한번 깨닫게 될 것이다. 은퇴를 한 목사로서 자랑 아닌 자랑을 할 수 있음에도 불구하고 저자는 자신의 목회 과정을 드러내거나 본받으라고 말하지 않는다. 오히려 자신의 부족한 부분까지 드러내며 겸손하게, 담담하게 이야기를 풀어나간다. 한 편의 이야기를 듣는 기분으로 이 책을 읽다 보면 어느새 저자와 함께 웃고 함께 울고 있게 될 것이다. 무엇보다 이 책은, 사역에서 매너리즘에 함몰된 목회자들이나, 열정이 넘쳤던 신앙생활을 회복하고픈 성도들에게 선향 영향력을 흘려준다. 다 나아가 오늘도 타지인 각 나라에서 선한 싸움을 하는 목회자들과 성도들에게 감사와 찬양의 고백을 더 풍성하게 만드는 책이라 믿는다.

The author grew up in an unbelieving family, worked as an office worker, confirmed his call to the ministry, studied at Trinity Theological Seminary in the United States, and served as a pastor in an immigrant community until his early retirement at age 65. This book centers on his experiences during his ministry at Siloam Korean Church. As you read the stories and the author’s thoughts and responses, you will realize once again how valuable God’s grace and wisdom are in ministry. Despite the fact that as a retired pastor, he is able to boast without bragging, he does not reveal his pastoral process or tell us to imitate it. Rather, he tells his story with humility and candor, even revealing his own shortcomings. You’ll find yourself laughing and crying along with the author as you read this book. Most importantly, this book will have a positive impact on pastors who have fallen into a rut in their ministry and on believers who want to regain their passionate faith. It will also enrich our confessions of thanksgiving and praise for the pastors and saints who are fighting the good fight in foreign lands today.
