Myanmar Study Bible becomes a reality…

First ever Myanmar Study Bible!

Myanmar Study Bible Launch
Jacob Mung & one of the authors of the Myanmar Study Bible

January 13th was a day that Jacob Mung, the CLC leader in Myanmar, had dreamed and prayed about for a long time.

After years of hard work and many challenges along the way, the first Burmese language Study Bibles was made available in his country. This is no small accomplishment. It was not that many years ago that Christian books and Bibles were virtually non-existent in this Buddhist country.

So much has changed now, and this new Bible promises to make a significant difference in the lives of those can finally use it. This project could not have been accomplished without the help of lots of partners and many donors around the world. The Langham Literature Trust was a big part of this effort as was the work of Martin Manser and Mike Beaumont in the UK. CLC USA (via Multi-Language Media) has the Bible available for sale now. We look forward to supplying the needs of the Burmese speakers in North America.

The Bible includes study notes, over 300 articles, references, maps, book introductions and more!

We thank the Lord that a resource like this is now available in Burmese! Click here to purchase the Bible.

Cheating

Sample of a practical/lifestyle issue

The story in Genesis 27 looks, at first sight, as though God approves of cheating. After all, Jacob tricked his father to obtain the family inheritance, but God still accepted him and reaffirmed to him the promises to Abraham (Genesis 28:10-22).

Does God approve of deception and cheating? Does he ignore it if it serves his purpose? The unfolding story shows that the clear answer is ‘No!’ for Jacob’s trickery caught up with him. Having cheated others, he too was cheated. His uncle Laban tricked him into marrying Leah before Rachel (Genesis 29:15-30) and tried to trick him out of his growing flocks (30:25-36). He had to learn that ‘a man reaps what he sows’ (Galatians 6:7). Ultimately Jacob changed, but only after powerfully encountering God (Genesis 32:22-32).

This story highlights the importance of reading the Bible’s stories both in context (what seems a blessing here is seen not to be so later), and in the light of Scripture’s teaching elsewhere. In fact the Bible consistently forbids stealing and cheating (e.g. Exodus 20:15; Deuteronomy 25:13-16; 1 Corinthians 6:7-8; 1 Thessalonians 4:6).
