Przez prawie dwadzieścia lat była niepełnosprawna, rzadko opuszczała pokój. W tym czasie napisała trzynaście nowych książek, oprócz przygotowania do druku wielu wznowień starszych publikacji. Amy Carmichael urodziła się w 1867 roku w wiosce Millisle w Irlandii i bezwarunkowo oddała swoje życie Chrystusowi. Najpierw pojechała do Japonii, ale tam powiedziano jej, że nie będzie w stanie wytrzymać klimatu. Po krótkim pobycie na Cejlonie (obecnie Sri Lanka) przybyła do Indii w 1895 roku i pozostała tam aż do śmierci 18 stycznia 1951 roku, przez ten cały okres nie wyjeżdżając na urlop nawet jeden raz. She was on disability for nearly twenty years and rarely left the room. During this time she wrote thirteen new books, in addition to preparing for print many reissues of older publications. All the time she was writing poems, which the Family received. They were then set to music and sung at daily prayer meetings and at the House of Prayer. The number of Christians around the world who were deeply moved by the challenge in her books grew tremendously then. I think it’s safe to say that after a fall and a serious injury, God used her pen to bring a much broader and deeper blessing than in all the previous years.

Amy Carmichael was born in 1867 in the village of Millisle, Ireland, and gave her life unconditionally to Christ. She first went to Japan, but there she was told she would not be able to withstand the climate. After a brief sojourn in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), she came to India in 1895 and remained there until her death on January 18, 1951, never taking a vacation even once during that entire period. Her dedicated life and service are an inspiration to all who are interested in Christian missions and a deeper life in God.

“We went to see an old lady who was very ill. She had not heard the Gospel before, but was willing and eager to listen. So I spoke and Misaki San translated, and our hearts prayed most earnestly. `Lord Jesus, help her. O help her to understand and open her heart to Thee now.” She seemed to be just about to turn to Him in faith when she suddenly noticed my hands. It was cold weather and I had on fur gloves. `What are these?’ she asked, stretching out her hand and touching mine. She was old and ill and easily distracted. I cannot remember whether or not we were able to recall her to what mattered so much more than gloves. But this I do remember. I went home, took off my English clothes, put on my Japanese kimono, and never again, I trust, risked so very much for the sake of so little.
