여기 내어놓는 「성경 이미지 사전」(Dictionary of Biblical Imagery)은 성경에 나타난 이미지, 상징, 모티브, 비유 그리고 문학 양식들을 다룬 최초의 책이다. 또한 이 사전은 인생과 문학 작품과 성경 속에 되풀이하여 나타나는 성경의 보편적인 원형들 혹은 주된 이미지들을 상세하게 고찰하고 있다. 본 사전은 일상 생활의 옷을 입고 우리에게 와 있는 하나님의 말씀의 다양성을 탐구하며, “에덴”으로부터 “새 예루살렘”까지를 다루고 있다. 그리고 성경 이야기의 구성양식을 고찰하며 성경의 각각의 책에 나오는 이미지들의 의미를 상고한다.

The Dictionary of Biblical Imagery is dedicated to exploring the images, symbols, motifs, metaphors and literary patterns found in the Bible. It examines the Bible’s universal archetypes or master images–including the plot motifs and character types that recur throughout life, literature and the Bible.
